A Tragedy in the Worst Form

I know everyone has heard about the horrible shooting that took place at Sandy Hook elementary school in Newton, Connecticut, and if you haven't, then shame on you for being ignorant. This shooting is by far one of the most appalling tragedies I have ever heard of, and though I am only 18, I have witnessed and learned of many. The 20 children who were murdered on Friday had their entire lives ahead of them. They were sweet, innocent babies who had a lifetime full of "firsts" to experience. Many of them were the same age my own nephew is now. Needless to say, their deaths hit very close to home, as I have no idea how I would continue to live if my precious nephew was horribly torn from life. As tragic as this already is, I can only imagine how terrified the survivors of this shooting must feel. Countless more innocent babies have had their innocence torn from them at a time when innocence is what makes their lives beautiful and joyful. These children are not supposed to be wittneses to the brutality that the world has to offer. They are not supposed to know that bad and horrible things can happen to anyone. They are not supposed to have to watch their teachers and friends be killed by a crazy man. They are not supposed to live in the fear they will undoubtedly live in for years to come. I know that this man has been labeled "mentally ill," but damn him. Damn him for taking the lives of 20 children and 6 teachers. Damn him for tearing the innocence away from hundreds of other children. Damn him for ruining the lives of 26 families who have to burry their children, brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, and grandchildren. Damn him instilling shock and fear into every human in possession of a heart. And damn the media for interviewing children who should not have to relive their experiences to the entire world. Trust me, we can live without knowing every single detail. As far as I'm concerned, the only people who absolutely need to know what happened are the police and the parents. The rest of us can back to hell off. Oh, and damn the media for allowing this crazy man's name to be better known that the children who lost their lives. How about we remember the children and teachers, and not allow this man's name to be another of the crazies who are imortilized in history. Ted Bundy, for instance, killed at least 13 women, but do we remember their names? No, we remeber the name of the man who brutilized and ended their lives. Something HAS to change in America.
May God be with everyone who was hurt by this tragedy. My prayers will be with them all for a very long time. I don't know that I have really stopped thinking about any of them since Friday afternoon.

Finals Frenzy: They Were Not Kidding

Today marked the beginning of my first finals week in college! Why do I sound so excited? Because home is a mere three days away! I am beyond ready to be with my parents and friends for a whole month. The Falls have been getting me down lately, and nothing can seem to compare to the good old LBK! I have not had much time for reading, unless you count my Western Civilization and Psychology textbooks (which I don't), so no new news. I can, however, tell you the entire history of education starting in the Middle Ages and moving through the Renaissance if you'd like :). I guess I really should be studying more than I obviously am now...later web world!

Flash Foreward One Year...

So apparently blogging just is not my thing! At least it wasn't in high school. I guess I'll give it another go and express my ever overwhelming feelings through the captivating world of blogs. It works for everyone else, right? Any way, since my last post I have indeed turned into an adult (in age at least), and am now in college (yay!). As my first semester is winding down, I have realized that I haven't really had much time to read leisurely. Maybe that's why I get grumpy sometimes?
I recently started Ana Karenina, and let me be one of many to ascertain that it is not a book to be taken lightly. However, I am fast becoming entranced by its Russian society, and I cannot wait for break to start so I can become completely enraptured in Leo Tolstoy's world. Hopefully I'll be able to manage more than just Ana Karenina, for my "To-Read" list seems to be growing...not sure how that's happening ;)
